From Round to Square (and back)

For The Emperor's Teacher, scroll down (↓) to "Topics." It's the management book that will rock the world (and break the vase, as you will see). Click or paste the following link for a recent profile of the project:

A new post appears every day at 12:05* (CDT). There's more, though. Take a look at the right-hand side of the page for over four years of material (2,000 posts and growing) from Seinfeld and country music to every single day of the Chinese lunar calendar...translated. Look here ↓ and explore a little. It will take you all the way down the page...from round to square (and back again).
*Occasionally I will leave a long post up for thirty-six hours, and post a shorter entry at noon the next day.

[a] Cat Preview RF
Well, this is as odd as day-columns come in Lunar World. You see, it should be a luscious, double-red, wonder-day (like two cherries atop your sundae). But, somehow, they are both printed in black ink today. What happened? Hint: I don't know, but it is "wrong." It's a good, even great, day. Let's take a closer look.

Day Personality
(Section Five—Characters Six and Seven)
[b] Four Stomachs RF
Today's "constellation personality" is Stomach (胃), which should be printed in red (). Calendrical interpretations stress that it is associated with the accumulation of wealth. It is seen as auspicious for building and marriages. All-in-all a good day, which should always be printed in red ink.

The jianchu "personality" is Open (開), which should be printed in red (). It's all about recovery from illness, and it is a good day for weddings, travel, study, and just about everything else. It's a good day, and should always be printed in red ink.
Lucky Stars
(Section Two)
There are four beneficent asterisms today, including Generational Branch (歲支), Three Linkages (三合), Engendered Vapor (生氣), and Ten Spirits (十靈).

Auspicious Times
(Section Three)
There are four inauspicious (凶) two-hour periods, four in-between () times, and four auspicious () times. This is the way it's supposed to be, people: 4-4-4.
[c] Branch RF
Things to Avoid
(Section Four)
It's a bad day for Binding Nets (結網), Venerating Ancestors (祭祀), Inquiring-into Fortune (祈福), and Stove Work (作灶). Think about these.

Just Plain Counting
(Section Four—Characters 1-4)
It is the thirteenth (十三) day of the third lunar month. The cycle of sixty character is #27: gengyin (庚寅). The days cycle—1, 2, 3, 58, 59, 60, 1, 2, 3...—in perpetuity.
Elemental (and Phased)
(Section Five—Character 5)
Today's slice of the "Five Phases" (sometimes called the "Five Elements") is Wood (木). Ordinarily, the Five Phases weave their way, two-by-two, through the calendar. Yesterday was Fire. Today is Wood, and tomorrow is Wood.

Appropriate Things
(Section Six)
[d] Moving Soil RF
It's a solid day for sixteen different things, including Studying (入學), Physician Visits (醫病), Moving Soil (動土), and Planting Crops (栽種). Click the link to see the other twelve!
Saturday's Lunar Calendar
Solar Periods
(Section Six—Upper and Middle)
We are in the sixth of the twenty-four fifteen day solar periods (the 二十四節氣), which began on Friday, April 20 and runs through Friday, May 4. It is called Corn Rain (穀雨). We are in the seventeenth of the seventy-two five-day solar micro periods (the 七十二候). It is called Pigeons Flap Their Wings (鳴鳩拂其羽). It began on Wednesday, April 25, and runs through Sunday, April 29.

Fear Your Unlucky Stars
(Bottom of Section Six)
The baleful asterisms (the bottom of section six) are Mutual Repression (厭對), Fire Star (火星), Tiger Mouth (虎口), Rollicking Braggadocio (招搖), and Blood Taboo (血忌). They're pretty baleful—more than usual, even.
Miscellaneous Omens and Activities
(Sections Seven and Eight)

Today's miscellaneous omens are White (白) and Fire (火). The miscellaneous activities are Furnace (爐), Mortar (磨), and Pestle (對). Nobody knows what they mean. Really.

See You Tomorrow
So enjoy the double-red wonder-day that happens to be printed in black ink. It'll be fun. I'll see you back here Saturday night for a preview of Sunday in Lunar World.
