From Round to Square (and back)

For The Emperor's Teacher, scroll down (↓) to "Topics." It's the management book that will rock the world (and break the vase, as you will see). Click or paste the following link for a recent profile of the project: http://magazine.beloit.edu/?story_id=240813&issue_id=240610

A new post appears every day at 12:05* (CDT). There's more, though. Take a look at the right-hand side of the page for over four years of material (2,000 posts and growing) from Seinfeld and country music to every single day of the Chinese lunar calendar...translated. Look here ↓ and explore a little. It will take you all the way down the page...from round to square (and back again).
*Occasionally I will leave a long post up for thirty-six hours, and post a shorter entry at noon the next day.

Lunar World Preview 2018 04-22

As the Lunar World Turns
Sunday, April 22, 2018
[a] Kitten Preview RF
Well, people, we're finally back to our tight, daily dose of whiplash. It's a 50-50 "personality" day, and that is "normal." Let's take a closer look.
Day Personality
(Section Five—Characters Six and Seven)
Today's "constellation personality" is Void (虛. Calendrical interpretations stress that it is a gloomy day-personality, portending family quarrels and ill-luck waiting for those who engage in construction or digging. Marriages undertaken today will result in miserable children who bring the family to ruin. Sound bleak enough for ya?
[b] Generational Horse RF

The jianchu "personality" is, however, is Decide (),and it is red-ink, unequivocal goodness. Just decide it. It is a day to be busy, and to crank things up a notch (or two...or three).
Lucky Stars
(Section Two)
There are two beneficent asterisms today: Generational Horse (歲馬) and Timely Yin (時陰). They are red-ink, tender goodness (by definition).

Auspicious Times
(Section Three)
There are four inauspicious (凶) two-hour periods, two in-between () times, and six auspicious () times. Auspiciousness inflation. Period.
Things to Avoid
[c] Patterning Coats RF
(Section Four)
It's a bad day for Opening Granaries (開倉) and Positioning Beds (安牀).

Just Plain Counting
(Section Four—Characters 1-4)
It is the seventh (初七) day of the third lunar month. The cycle of sixty character is #21: jiashen (甲申). The days cycle—1, 2, 3, 58, 59, 60, 1, 2, 3...—in perpetuity.

Elemental (and Phased)
(Section Five—Character 5)
Today's slice of the "Five Phases" (sometimes called the "Five Elements") is Water (水). Ordinarily, the Five Phases weave their way, two-by-two, through the calendar. Yesterday was Wood. Today is Water, and tomorrow is Water.
Appropriate Things
(Section Six)
[d] Monkey (Covered) Mouth RF
It's a solid day for eight different things, including Haircuts and Hair Styling (理髮), Sweeping Rooms (掃舎), and Raising Livestock (牧養). Click the link for the rest!

Solar Periods
(Section Six—Upper and Middle)
We are in the sixth of the twenty-four fifteen day solar periods (the 二十四節氣), which began on Friday, April 20 and runs through Friday, May 4. It is called Corn Rain (穀雨). We are in the sixteenth of the seventy-two five-day solar micro periods (the 七十二候). It is called Floating Weeds Appear (萍始生). It began on Friday, April 20, and runs through Tuesday, April 24.

Fear Your Unlucky Stars
(Bottom of Section Six)
The baleful asterisms (the bottom of section six) are Water Scar (水痕), Death Vapor (死氣), and Monkey Mouth (猴口). You may think that monkeys are just cute little creatures in the zoo, but you have not ever had to rescue grandma from the monkey chief on Nine Flowers Mountain (九華山) in Anhui Province. Someday, I'll tell you about that story.
Miscellaneous Omens and Activities
(Sections Seven and Eight)

Today's miscellaneous omens is just "White" (白). The miscellaneous activities are Divination (占), Furnace (爐), and Gate (門). Nobody knows what they mean (and I'm not kidding).
[e] Livestock RF
See You Tomorrow
So, look over your black-ink shoulder, and be very wary...but then look over the red-ink one, and be superbly positive (and decide). I'll see you back here Sunday night for a preview of Monday in Lunar World.
