From Round to Square (and back)

For The Emperor's Teacher, scroll down (↓) to "Topics." It's the management book that will rock the world (and break the vase, as you will see). Click or paste the following link for a recent profile of the project: http://magazine.beloit.edu/?story_id=240813&issue_id=240610

A new post appears every day at 12:05* (CDT). There's more, though. Take a look at the right-hand side of the page for over four years of material (2,000 posts and growing) from Seinfeld and country music to every single day of the Chinese lunar calendar...translated. Look here ↓ and explore a little. It will take you all the way down the page...from round to square (and back again).
*Occasionally I will leave a long post up for thirty-six hours, and post a shorter entry at noon the next day.

Lunar World Preview 2018 04-19

[a] Tough-guy Cat Preview RF
Well, we have hit a breakthrough, people. It's a double-red (ink) "personality" day, and we're going to have fun, fun, fun...until the T-Bird gets taken away. Let's take a closer look.

Day Personality
(Section Five—Characters Six and Seven)
Today's "constellation personality" is Dipper (), sometimes called Southern Dipper (南斗). Calendrical interpretations stress that it is very good, and that the cows and horses you buy today will bring great rewards. Building projects lead to wonderful fortune.
[b] T-Bird RF

The jianchu "personality" is Discard (),and that is good stuff, too, but in a very different way. Instead of bustling bags of good fortune, it is a day for cleansing, purging, and (to use an idiom from today) recycling. As I like to say, "Eschew on that for a while."

Lucky Stars
(Section Two)
There are two beneficent asterisms today: Generational Emolument (歲祿) and Yin Virtue (陰德). By definition, they're good.

Auspicious Times
(Section Three)
There are four inauspicious (凶) two-hour periods, three in-between () times, and five auspicious () times. Creeping auspiciousness inflation.
Things to Avoid
[c] Mixing Sauces RF
(Section Four)
It's a bad day for Mixing Sauces (合醬) and Distant Journeys (遠行). Think about these, and ask yourself these questions: What, precisely, is a "sauce" (and what isn't)? and What, precisely is a distant journey? Think it (them) over.

Just Plain Counting
(Section Four—Characters 1-4)
It is the fourth (初四) day of the third lunar month. The cycle of sixty character is #18: xinsi (辛巳). The days cycle—1, 2, 3, 58, 59, 60, 1, 2, 3...—in perpetuity.

Elemental (and Phased)
(Section Five—Character 5)
Today's slice of the "Five Phases" (sometimes called the "Five Elements") is Metal (金). Ordinarily, the Five Phases weave their way, two-by-two, through the calendar. Yesterday was Metal. Today is Metal, and tomorrow is Wood.

Appropriate Things
(Section Six)
[d] Bath Time RF
It's a solid day for eight different things, including Meeting Friends (會友), Bathing (沐浴), and Haircuts or Styling (理髮). Click the link for the others.
Thursday's Lunar Calendar

Solar Periods
(Section Six—Upper and Middle)
We are in the last day of the fifth of twenty-four fifteen day solar periods (the 二十四節氣), which began on Thursday, April 4 and runs through April 19. It is called Qingming (清明). We are in the fifteenth of the seventy-two five-day solar micro periods (the 七十二候). It is called Rainbows Begin to be Seen (虹始見), and it began on Sunday, April 15, and runs through Thursday, April 19.

Fear Your Unlucky Stars
(Bottom of Section Six)
The baleful asterisms (the bottom of section six) are Lower Amputee (下兀), Fire Star (火星), and Doubled Days (重日). They're bad.

Miscellaneous Omens and Activities
(Sections Seven and Eight)

Today's miscellaneous omens are Bifurcation (丫) and Person (人). The miscellaneous activities are Kitchen (廚), Bed (牀), and Stove (灶). Nobody knows what they mean. Seriously...nobody does.
[e] Stove Work RF
See You Tomorrow
Bask in red-ink fun and positivity today, and discard all that you don't need. Start anew, and I will see you back here on Thursday night for a preview of Friday in Lunar World.
