From Round to Square (and back)

For The Emperor's Teacher, scroll down (↓) to "Topics." It's the management book that will rock the world (and break the vase, as you will see). Click or paste the following link for a recent profile of the project: http://magazine.beloit.edu/?story_id=240813&issue_id=240610

A new post appears every day at 12:05* (CDT). There's more, though. Take a look at the right-hand side of the page for over four years of material (2,000 posts and growing) from Seinfeld and country music to every single day of the Chinese lunar calendar...translated. Look here ↓ and explore a little. It will take you all the way down the page...from round to square (and back again).
*Occasionally I will leave a long post up for thirty-six hours, and post a shorter entry at noon the next day.

Lunar World Preview 2018 04-07

As the Lunar World Turns
Saturday, April 7, 2018
[a] Preview Cat RF
Well, it's another 50-50 "whiplash" day, people. We have the worst-of-the-worst and the best of the best. Let's take a closer look.

Day Personality
(Section Five—Characters Six and Seven)
Today's "constellation personality" is Willow (柳). That is bad—really inauspicious. Calendrical interpretations stress that it is gloomy, weepy (go figure), and destined to make all actions result in the worst possible outcomes.
[b] Discard RF

The jianchu "personality" is Discard (), and it is one of my favorites. Calendrical specialists stress that it isn't all that great, but I don't buy it. Spring cleaning is good, medical appointments are good, and exercise is terrific. The specialists do say that "organized activity" of all kinds are not to be recommended. So don't be organized. It's a snap for me.
Lucky Stars
(Section Two)
There are three beneficent asterisms today, including Generational Emolument (歲祿), Five Wealths, (五富) and Yin Virtue (陰將).

Auspicious Times
(Section Three)
[c] Wood RF
There are four inauspicious (凶) two-hour periods, three in-between () times, and five auspicious () times.
Things to Avoid
(Section Four)
It's a bad day for distant journeys (遠行), completing clothing (成服), and—wait for it— exorcisms (除靈). Think about these. Yes, exorcisms.

Just Plain Counting
(Section Four—Characters 1-4)
It is the twenty-second (廿二) day of the second lunar month. The cycle of sixty character is #18: (己巳). The days cycle—1, 2, 3, 58, 59, 60, 1, 2, 3...—in perpetuity.

Elemental (and Phased)
(Section Five—Character 5)
Today's slice of the "Five Phases" (sometimes called the "Five Elements") is Wood (木). Ordinarily, the Five Phases weave their way, two-by-two, through the calendar. Yesterday was Wood. Today is Wood, and tomorrow is Earth.
[d] Qingming RF

Appropriate Things
(Section Six)
It's a solid day for twelve different things, including meeting friends (會友), taking baths (沐浴), and moving residences (移徙).
Saturday's Lunar Calendar
Solar Periods
(Section Six—Upper and Middle)
We are in the fifth of the twenty-four fifteen day solar periods (the 二十四節氣), which began on Thursday, April 4 and runs April 19. It is called Qingming (清明). We are in the thirteenth of the five-day solar micro periods (the 七十二候). It is called Paulownia Blooms (桐始華), and began on Thursday April 4, and runs through Monday April 9.

Fear Your Unlucky Stars
(Bottom of Section Six)
The baleful asterisms (the bottom of section six) are wide-ranging and unlucky (by definition). Among them are Five Voids (五虛) and Plundered Balefulness (劫煞). Doubled Days (重日) is the featured unlucky star for the day.

Miscellaneous Omens and Activities
(Sections Seven and Eight)

Today's miscellaneous omens are Person (人) and Person (人). Yes, the same. Twice. The miscellaneous activities are Divination (占), Bed (牀), and Gate (門). Nobody knows what they mean.
[e] Westie Bed RF
See You Tomorrow
All right. Keep your head on a swivel, and watch our for Willow weeping even as you look for opportunity in discarding the detritus of your day (and life). Be patient and eschew the fat. I'll see you back here tomorrow night for a Sunday preview in Lunar World.
