From Round to Square (and back)

For The Emperor's Teacher, scroll down (↓) to "Topics." It's the management book that will rock the world (and break the vase, as you will see). Click or paste the following link for a recent profile of the project: http://magazine.beloit.edu/?story_id=240813&issue_id=240610

A new post appears every day at 12:05* (CDT). There's more, though. Take a look at the right-hand side of the page for over four years of material (2,000 posts and growing) from Seinfeld and country music to every single day of the Chinese lunar calendar...translated. Look here ↓ and explore a little. It will take you all the way down the page...from round to square (and back again).
*Occasionally I will leave a long post up for thirty-six hours, and post a shorter entry at noon the next day.

Lunar World Preview 2018 04-24

As the Lunar World Turns
Tuesday, April 24, 2018
[a] Preview Cat RF
We're smoothly moving along (again) with whipsaw 50-50 all-good-meets-all-bad. Let's take a look.

Day Personality
(Section Five—Characters Six and Seven)
Today's "constellation personality" is red-ink goodness: Pyre (). Calendrical interpretations stress that it an excellent day for construction activities, and that all kinds of good fortune will be heaped upon the person who builds today.
[b] Heavenly Horse RF

The jianchu "personality" is black-ink badness: Destroy (破). It is (by far) the worst-of-the-worst. Calendrical interpretations are in agreement that just about everything that could go wrong "will" go wrong. Watch your back. And your front. And the sides. Better yet, just sleep away the day. But I now that you won't do that (no will I, nor have 2,500 years of calendar watchers, for whom a "Destroy" day pops up every fortnight).

Lucky Stars
(Section Two)
There are two beneficent asterisms today, including Heavenly Horse (天馬) and Unleashing Spirits (解神). These are good (by definition; look at the heading, above).

[c]
Auspicious Times
(Section Three)
There are two inauspicious (凶) two-hour periods, three in-between () times, and seven (yes, seven) auspicious () times. Auspiciousness inflation is going to break the calendrical economy.
Things to Avoid
(Section Four)
It's a bad day for Kitchen Repairs (修廚) and Stove Work (作灶). Think about these, and realize that today's avoidances assume that you can't stand the heat (so get out of the kitchen)

Just Plain Counting
(Section Four—Characters 1-4)
It is the ninth (初九) day of the third lunar month. The cycle of sixty character is #23: bingxu (丙虛). The days cycle—1, 2, 3, 58, 59, 60, 1, 2, 3...—in perpetuity.
[d] Physician Visit RF

Elemental (and Phased)
(Section Five—Character 5)
Today's slice of the "Five Phases" (sometimes called the "Five Elements") is Earth (土). Ordinarily, the Five Phases weave their way, two-by-two, through the calendar. Yesterday was Water. Today is Earth, and tomorrow is Earth.

Appropriate Things
(Section Six)
It's a solid day for four big things in two big categories: Seeking Physicians (求醫), Treating Illness (治病), Destroying Rooms (破屋), and Smashing Embankments (壞垣).
Tuesday's Lunar Calendar
Solar Periods
(Section Six—Upper and Middle)
We are in the sixth of the twenty-four fifteen day solar periods (the 二十四節氣), which began on Friday, April 20 and runs through Friday, May 4. It is called Corn Rain (穀雨). We are in the sixteenth of the seventy-two five-day solar micro periods (the 七十二候). It is called Floating Weeds Appear (萍始生). It began on Friday, April 20, and runs through Tuesday, April 24.

Fear Your Unlucky Stars
(Bottom of Section Six)
The baleful asterisms (the bottom of section six) are Lunar Taboo (月破), Poplar Taboo (楊忌), White Tiger (白虎), and Nine Vacancies (九空).
Miscellaneous Omens and Activities
(Sections Seven and Eight)

Today's miscellaneous omens are Person (人) and Heaven (天). The miscellaneous activities are Kitchen (廚), Perch (栖), and Stove (灶). Nobody knows what they mean.
[e] White Tiger RF
See You Tomorrow
So, "enjoy" the utterly horribly "Destroy" day at the same time that you enjoy the utterly wonderful "Pyre" day (it's better than it sounds, remember?). I'll see you back here Tuesday night for a preview of Wednesday of Lunar World.
