The 50-50 "whipsaw" days continue. It's always black and white and red all over...or just a little bit of red sprinkled throughout the day column. Let's take a closer look.

Day Personality
(Section Five—Characters Six and Seven)
Today's "constellation personality" is black-ink Heart-Mind (心), and it is really not-that-good. Calendrical interpretations stress that (at least in Lunar World) it is a lousy day to build, and that legal cases result in (your) imprisonment. It also stresses that when things go south on a Heart-Mind day, they go badly...very quickly.

[b] Kitten Amnesty? RF

The jianchu "personality" is red-ink Open (開), and it is really good. You already know the virtues of "Open," don't you? Specifically, though, it is a day on which people will recover from illness. It's a good day for business matters, correspondence, and practicing your skills (from calligraphy to yoga). Be open.

There are three beneficent asterisms today: Generational Virtue (歲德), Heavenly Amnesty (天赦), and Engendered Vapor (生氣). They're good (by definition).

There are four inauspicious (凶) two-hour periods, three in-between (中) times, and five auspicious (吉) times. Creeping auspiciousness inflation...I'm tellin' ya.

[c] Buying Land RF

It's a bad day for Buying Land (買田), Setting-up Industry (置業), and Venerating Ancestors (祭祀). Think about these—even venerating your ancestors has its bad days.

Just Plain Counting
(Section Four—Characters 1-4)
It is the first (初一) day of the third lunar month. The cycle of sixty character is #15: wuyin (戊寅). The days cycle—1, 2, 3, 58, 59, 60, 1, 2, 3...—in perpetuity. 

Elemental (and Phased)
(Section Five—Character 5)
Today's slice of the "Five Phases" (sometimes called the "Five Elements") is Earth (土). Ordinarily, the Five Phases weave their way, two-by-two, through the calendar. Yesterday was Water. Today is Earth, and tomorrow is Earth.

It's a solid day for twelve different things, including Studying (入學), Opening Markets (開市), and Livestock Payments (納畜). Click the link for the other nine. Solar Periods

(Section Six—Upper and Middle)

We are in the fifth of the twenty-four fifteen day solar periods (the 二十四節氣), which began on Thursday, April 4 and runs April 19. It is called Qingming (清明). We are in the fifteenth of the seventy-two five-day solar micro periods (the 七十二候). It is called Rainbows Begin to be Seen (虹始見), and it began on Sunday, April 15, and runs through Thursday, April 19.

The baleful asterisms (the bottom of section six) are Long Star (長星), Blood Taboo (血忌), and Repeat Mourning (復喪). There is another, too, and it is one of our "Zodiacal Mouth" baleful asterisms: Tiger Mouth (虎口). Scary stuff.

Miscellaneous Omens and Activities
(Sections Seven and Eight)

Today's miscellaneous omens are White (白) and Fire (火). The miscellaneous activities are Edifice (房), Furnace (爐), and Bed (牀). Nobody knows what they mean (I am not kidding; my statement is based upon twenty years of fieldwork).
