From Round to Square (and back)

For The Emperor's Teacher, scroll down (↓) to "Topics." It's the management book that will rock the world (and break the vase, as you will see). Click or paste the following link for a recent profile of the project: http://magazine.beloit.edu/?story_id=240813&issue_id=240610

A new post appears every day at 12:05* (CDT). There's more, though. Take a look at the right-hand side of the page for over four years of material (2,000 posts and growing) from Seinfeld and country music to every single day of the Chinese lunar calendar...translated. Look here ↓ and explore a little. It will take you all the way down the page...from round to square (and back again).
*Occasionally I will leave a long post up for thirty-six hours, and post a shorter entry at noon the next day.

Lunar World Preview 2018 06-24

As the Lunar World Turns

[a] Cat Preview RF
Nothing could beat yesterday, but now it's gone. Poof. Even the best-of-the-best only lasts for twenty-three hours, fifty-six minutes, nineteen-point-four seconds (as I remember it from fourth grade, "several" decades ago). Now we're on to another day, and it's, um, half-bad. Let's take a closer look.
Day Personality
Constellation Personality (Section Five—Character Six)
Today's "constellation personality" is Pleiades (昂). It is the eighteenth of twenty-eight "lunar mansions" (宿) or "constellations." Traditional calendars state that it could presage an invasion, and it has generally be regarded as unlucky. Today, it is seen (in Lunar World) as likely to result in misjudgment ("it seemed like a good idea at the time"). Marriages undertaken today are woeful. Just sayin' (in Lunar World).
Jianchu Personality (Section Five—Character Seven)
[b] Grasp RF
The jianchu "personality" is Grasp (), and it's good (and crafty). It is the sixth of twelve characters in the jianchu cycle. "Grasp" doesn't mean going out and burning up the town. It means staying in and pushing your limits. Look inward to stretch beyond.
Lucky Stars
(Section Two)
There are two beneficent asterisms today: Heavenly Nobility (天貴) and Five Abundances (五富).
Auspicious Times
(Section Three)
There are four inauspicious (凶) two-hour periods (so four, so good), one in-between () times, and seven auspicious () times. One reaction: are you kidding me?
Things to Avoid
(Section Four)
[c] Patterning Hair RF
It's a bad day for Haircuts (理髮) and Marriage (嫁娶). And definitely don't do both.
Just Plain Counting
(Section Four—Characters 1-4)
It is the eleventh (十一) day of the fourth lunar month. The cycle of sixty character is #24: dinghai (丁亥). The days cycle—1, 2, 3, 58, 59, 60, 1, 2, 3...—in perpetuity.
Elemental (and Phased)
(Section Five—Character 5)
Today's slice of the "Five Phases" (sometimes called the "Five Elements") is Earth (土). Ordinarily, the Five Phases weave their way, two-by-two, through the calendar. Yesterday was Earth. Today is Earth, and tomorrow is Fire.
Appropriate Things
(Section Six)
It's a solid day for only two big things today: Venerating Ancestors (祭祀) and Sweeping Rooms (掃舎). Better hunker down and focus on those, people.
Sunday's Lunar Calendar
Solar Periods
(Section Six—Upper and Middle)
[d] Bed RF
We are in the tenth of the twenty-four fifteen day solar periods (the 二十四節氣), which began on Thursday, June 21 and runs through Friday, July 6. It is called Summer Arrives or, of course, Summer Solstice (夏至). We are in the twenty-seventh of the seventy-two five-day solar micro periods (the 七十二候). It is called Deer Shed Antlers (鹿角節). It began on Thursday, June 21 and runs through Monday, June 25.
Fear Your Unlucky Stars
(Bottom of Section Six)
The baleful asterisms (the bottom of section six) are Upper Decade (上朔), Hog Mouth (豬口), Doubled Days (重日), and Plundered Balefulness (劫煞). Think about them as movie titles. Really, try it. You'll actually get a sense of what kind of balefulness is going on here.
Miscellaneous Omens and Activities
(Sections Seven and Eight)

Today's miscellaneous omens are White (白) and Mountain (山). The miscellaneous activities are Granary (倉), Bed (牀), and Storehouse (庫). Nobody knows what they mean.
See You Tomorrow
O.k., thread the Pleiadean needle today, folks (and grasp, grasp). I'll see you back here on Sunday night for a preview of Monday in Lunar World.
