Day Personality
(Section Five—Characters Six and Seven)
Today's "constellation personality" is Asterism (星). Calendrical interpretations sometimes call it the "bird" constellation, as well as "Seven Stars." We won't get into the astronomy of it all for a few weeks (it takes time to get used to all of the information), but suffice (it) to say that it "leans inauspicious," even though it really constitutes (in Lunar World, remember) a mixture of good and ill fortune. Building and construction are boffo; marriages foretell misery. It's a mixed bag, to be sure.
The jianchu "personality" is Receive (收). Even though it is printed in black ink, it is really quite positive. Traditional calendars emphasize the opening of heaven's treasuries, and it is a good day to draw upon savings, arrange life events, begin a course of study. The only activities to shun on this confusing black ink day are funerals, acupuncture, and moxibustion.
So I have a question. Why isn't red-ink Danger (危, #8 of 12) printed in black and black-ink Receive (收, #10 of 12) printed in red?
Lucky Stars
(Section Two)
There are two beneficent asterisms today: Heavenly Virtue (天德) and Linked Days (合日). These are meager pickings in this slender little (two-wide) day column, but they still pack an auspicious punch.
Auspicious Times
(Section Three)
There are three inauspicious (凶) two-hour periods, five in-between (中) times, and four auspicious (吉) times. I haven't seen that combination for a long time.
Things to Avoid
(Section Four)
It's a bad day for Stove Work (作灶) and Venerating Ancestors (祭祀). Think about these. Not too many days are bad for venerating your forebears, but this one is.
Just Plain Counting
(Section Four—Characters 1-4)
It is the twentieth (二十) day of the fourth lunar month. The cycle of sixty character is #3: bingyin (丙寅). The days cycle—1, 2, 3, 58, 59, 60, 1, 2, 3...—in perpetuity.

Elemental (and Phased)
(Section Five—Character 5)
Today's slice of the "Five Phases" (sometimes called the "Five Elements") is FIre (火). Ordinarily, the Five Phases weave their way, two-by-two, through the calendar. Yesterday was Metal. Today is Fire, and tomorrow is Fire.
Appropriate Things
(Section Six)
It's
a solid day for eight different things, including Meeting Friends (會友), Raising Beams (上樑), and Moving Residences (移徙). Click the link for the rest!

Sunday's Lunar Calendar
Solar Periods
(Section Six—Upper and Middle)
We
are in the eighth of the twenty-four fifteen day solar periods (the
二十四節氣), which
began on Monday, May 21 and runs through Monday, June 4. It is called
Grain Full (小滿). We are in the twenty-first of the seventy-two
five-day
solar micro periods (the 七十二候). It is called Harvest Season Arrives
(麥秋至). This is an odd phrase for the beginning of June, and it is
usually written Slight Heat Arrives or Grain Ripens (小暑至). It began on Thursday, May 31, and runs through Monday, June 4
Fear Your Unlucky Stars
(Bottom of Section Six)
The baleful asterisms (the bottom of section six) are Soil Charm (土符), Repeat Mourning (重喪), and Returning Days (復日).
Miscellaneous Omens and Activities
(Sections Seven and Eight)
Today's miscellaneous omens are White (白) and Ghost (鬼). The miscellaneous activities are Kitchen (廚), Furnace (爐), and Stove (灶). Nobody knows what they mean, but at least one link today is "if you can't stand the heat..."

O.k., people, it's not as bad as it looks. Sit back and enjoy the ride. I'll see you back here on Sunday night for a preview of Monday in Lunar World.
