 for class in the first half of the term (very important) to essays
that are meant to stimulate broad thinking about our  class materials.

This is an important concept that will help you with a great deal of your work. Note that, even though the posts speak of ethnographic inquiry (in-person questioning), the skill can be turned toward historical study and, yes, translation. We'll discuss these matters in class.
