From Round to Square (and back)

For The Emperor's Teacher, scroll down (↓) to "Topics." It's the management book that will rock the world (and break the vase, as you will see). Click or paste the following link for a recent profile of the project: http://magazine.beloit.edu/?story_id=240813&issue_id=240610

A new post appears every day at 12:05* (CDT). There's more, though. Take a look at the right-hand side of the page for over four years of material (2,000 posts and growing) from Seinfeld and country music to every single day of the Chinese lunar calendar...translated. Look here ↓ and explore a little. It will take you all the way down the page...from round to square (and back again).
*Occasionally I will leave a long post up for thirty-six hours, and post a shorter entry at noon the next day.

Lunar World Preview 2018 05-24

As the Lunar World Turns
Thursday, May 24, 2018
[a] Cat Preview RF
Well, I hope that you enjoyed Wednesday, people, because Thursday is almost a mirror image (leaning inauspicious). Let's take a closer work.

Day Personality
(Section Five—Characters Six and Seven)
Today's "constellation personality" is Astride (奎). Calendrical interpretations stress that it distinctly inauspicious. Construction work and digging projects are disastrous, and family quarrels loom in the background.
[b] Astride RF

The jianchu "personality" is Closed (閉). While this is not as bad as it sounds (a good day for kicking back outside of the public glare), most public activities are "unfortunate" in Lunar World.
Lucky Stars
(Section Two)
There are two beneficent asterisms today: Heavenly Virtue (天德) and Linked Days (合日).

Auspicious Times
(Section Three)
There are three inauspicious (凶) two-hour periods, six in-between () times, and three auspicious () times. Whoa. Just...whoa. That's powerfully "average."
Things to Avoid
(Section Four)
[c] Kitchen Cat RF
It's a bad day for anything to do with your kitchen, including Kitchen Repairs (修廚) and Working Around the Stove (作灶). Don't even think that you can stand the heat; get out of the kitchen.

Just Plain Counting
(Section Four—Characters 1-4)
It is the tenth (初十) day of the fourth lunar month. The cycle of sixty character is #53: bingchen (丙辰). The days cycle—1, 2, 3, 58, 59, 60, 1, 2, 3...—in perpetuity.
Elemental (and Phased)
(Section Five—Character 5)
Today's slice of the "Five Phases" (sometimes called the "Five Elements") is Earth (土). Ordinarily, the Five Phases weave their way, two-by-two, through the calendar. Yesterday was Water. Today is Earth, and tomorrow is Earth.

Appropriate Things
(Section Six)
It's a solid day for only two things: Unhitching and Unloading (拆卸) and Sweeping (掃舎).
Thursday's Lunar Calendar
Solar Periods
(Section Six—Upper and Middle)
[d] Unloading RF
We are in the eighth of the twenty-four fifteen day solar periods (the 二十四節氣), which began on Monday, May 21 and runs through Monday, June 4. It is called Grain Full (小滿). We are in the twenty-first of the seventy-two five-day solar micro periods (the 七十二候). It is called Bitter Herb Grows Tall (苦菜秀). It began on Monday, May 21, and runs through Friday, May 25.

Fear Your Unlucky Stars
(Bottom of Section Six)
The baleful asterisms (the bottom of section six) are Generational Destruction (歲破), Blood Branch (血支), Repeat Mourning (重喪), and Repeated Days (復日). Yup, they're baleful (especially "Blood Branch").
Miscellaneous Omens and Activities
(Sections Seven and Eight)

Today's miscellaneous omens are Person (人) and Water (水). The miscellaneous activities are Kitchen (廚), Perch (栖), and Stove (灶). Nobody knows what they mean (but stay out of the kitchen).

See You Tomorrow
O.k., people. Keep your heads down and weather the ol' double black-ink punch of inauspiciousness. I'll see you back here on Thursday night for a preview of Friday in Lunar World.
