From Round to Square (and back)

For The Emperor's Teacher, scroll down (↓) to "Topics." It's the management book that will rock the world (and break the vase, as you will see). Click or paste the following link for a recent profile of the project: http://magazine.beloit.edu/?story_id=240813&issue_id=240610

A new post appears every day at 12:05* (CDT). There's more, though. Take a look at the right-hand side of the page for over four years of material (2,000 posts and growing) from Seinfeld and country music to every single day of the Chinese lunar calendar...translated. Look here ↓ and explore a little. It will take you all the way down the page...from round to square (and back again).
*Occasionally I will leave a long post up for thirty-six hours, and post a shorter entry at noon the next day.

Lunar World Preview 2018 06-19

As the Lunar World Turns
Tuesday, June 19, 2018
[a] Cat Preview RF
Well, this skinny little day-column packs a punch today. It only looks "50-50." It's actually a good deal better than that. Let's take a closer look.
Day Personality
Constellation Personality (Section Five—Character Six)
Today's "constellation personality" is Pyre (). It is the thirteenth of twenty-eight "lunar mansions" (宿) or "constellations." Traditional calendars state that it resembled a ceremonial pyre used for sacrificial purposes. Today's portents are positive for construction, and new projects will be fortunate (in Lunar World).
Jianchu Personality (Section Five—Character Seven)
[b] Pyre RF
The jianchu "personality" is Establish (建). It is the first of twelve characters in the jianchu cycle, and it better than its black-ink looks. Traditional calendars note that it is a day that generates the ten-thousand things. It's a good day for tailoring, bill-paying, travel (except by boat), and opening for business.
Lucky Stars
(Section Two)
There are two beneficent asterisms today: Lunar Vacancy (月空) and Heavenly Kindness (天恩). Their red-ink aura shines over your day.

Auspicious Times
(Section Three)
[c] Irrigation RF
There are three inauspicious (凶) two-hour periods, three in-between () times, and six auspicious () times. This "auspiciousness inflation" is so obvious that it's getting ridiculous.
Things to Avoid
(Section Four)
It's a bad day for Opening Irrigation Sluices (開渠) and Litigation (詞訟). It's always a bad day for litigation.
Just Plain Counting
(Section Four—Characters 1-4)
It is the sixth (初六) day of the fourth lunar month. The cycle of sixty character is #19: renwu (壬午). The days cycle—1, 2, 3, 58, 59, 60, 1, 2, 3...—in perpetuity.
Elemental (and Phased)
(Section Five—Character 5)
Today's slice of the "Five Phases" (sometimes called the "Five Elements") is Wood (木). Ordinarily, the Five Phases weave their way, two-by-two, through the calendar. Yesterday was Metal. Today is Wood, and tomorrow is Wood.
Appropriate Things
(Section Six)
It's a solid day for four things today: Venerating Ancestors (祭祀), Making Appointments (立約), Trade and Commerce (交易), and Capital Payments (納財).
Tuesday's Lunar Calendar
Solar Periods
(Section Six—Upper and Middle)
[d] Mockingbird RF
We are in the ninth of the twenty-four fifteen day solar periods (the 二十四節氣), which began on Wednesday, June 6 and runs through Wednesday, June 20. It is called Grain in Ear (芒種). We are in the twenty-seventh of the seventy-two five-day solar micro periods (the 七十二候). It is called Mockingbird Loses Voice (反舌無聲). It began on Monday, June 16 and runs through Friday, June 20.
Fear Your Unlucky Stars
(Bottom of Section Six)
The baleful asterisms (the bottom of section six) are Upper Amputee (上兀), Opposed Branch (反支), Fire Star (火星), and Soil Charm (土符).
Miscellaneous Omens and Activities
(Sections Seven and Eight)

Today's miscellaneous omens are White (白) and Heaven (天). The miscellaneous activities are Granary (倉), Pestle (碓), and Storehouse (庫). Nobody knows what they mean.
See You Tomorrow
O.k., people, let's get stuff established. I hope that you have big plans. I'll see you back here on Tuesday night for a preview of Wednesday in Lunar World.
