[a] Lunar World Preview RF |
[b] Level (Boring?) RF |
Day Personality
(Section Five—Characters Six and Seven)
Today's "constellation personality" is "Pyre" (室). Calendrical interpretations stress that it is a fortunate day for starting projects, and especially building projects. All kinds of riches and goodness will (in the Lunar World way of seeing things) accrue to you if you just start a-building.
"Pyre" is sooooo good that you should just bask in its day-column glory.
The jianchu "personality" is "Level" (平), which sounds great, but is really sort of meh in calendrical parlance. Don't get me wrong; it's not all bad. "Level" is a good day for coasting for a while. It is a day for thinking, taking stock, reflecting. Just sail down the tracks, reflecting on your next moves (as in tomorrow's Decisions (but we are getting ahead of ourselves).
Lucky Stars
(Section Two)
Every "regular" day (which means almost every one except New Year's Day) has two-to-four "beneficent" or lucky stars. Today's are "Generational Virtue" (歲德) and "Ten Spirits" (十靈). They are always red-ink, and we'll get into the ideas (slowly) over the coming months.
Auspicious Times
(Section Three)
Section three of the calendar focuses on auspicious, in-between, and inauspicious times. The day is divided into twelve two-hour periods. Today has four unlucky times, four in-between times, and four lucky times. Check 'em out (the translation makes it very clear; click the link, above or below).
Do you have something important to do? See if (in Lunar World, at least) it's a good time to do so.
Things to Avoid
(Section Four)
It's a bad day for "Setting-up Production" (置產) and "Thatched Coverings" (苫蓋). Think about these for a moment. The second is pretty specific, so just (generally) stay off of the roof. The first, though, is a bit of a challenge. What does "setting-up production" really mean? Does it mean factories...or maybe a theatrical production? The actual language of the calendar doesn't tell (which is why we need literature, history, and ethnography).
Appropriate Things
(Section Six)
It's a solid day for "Leveling and Painting Roadways" (平治道塗) and Repairing and Adorning Embankments and Walls (修飾垣牆). These almost always occur on "Level" days, and they get pretty stale over time. Yet...it is a good day to paint, adorn, and level (roadways, embankments, and walls). Think about it.

Fear Your Unlucky Stars
(Bottom of Section Six)
The baleful asterisms (the bottom of section six) are fairly common in Lunar World-speak. Still, they pack a punch. Among them are "Poplar Taboo" (楊忌) and "Fire Star" (火星). They are, by definition, ominous, but I always have a soft spot for another of them: "Debt Not" (債不). Ominous, baleful, inauspicious...or any other near-synonym, it is darned good advice.
See You Tomorrow
So, revel in the general goodness of today's slice of day on Lunar World's calendar, (and debt not). I will see you back here tomorrow night for Wednesday's Lunar World Preview.
