From Round to Square (and back)

For The Emperor's Teacher, scroll down (↓) to "Topics." It's the management book that will rock the world (and break the vase, as you will see). Click or paste the following link for a recent profile of the project: http://magazine.beloit.edu/?story_id=240813&issue_id=240610

A new post appears every day at 12:05* (CDT). There's more, though. Take a look at the right-hand side of the page for over four years of material (2,000 posts and growing) from Seinfeld and country music to every single day of the Chinese lunar calendar...translated. Look here ↓ and explore a little. It will take you all the way down the page...from round to square (and back again).
*Occasionally I will leave a long post up for thirty-six hours, and post a shorter entry at noon the next day.

Lunar World Preview 2018 07-15

As the Lunar World Turns
Sunday, July 15, 2018
[a] Cat Preview RF
It's a classic "50-50" day, with no particular "leaning" toward auspicious or inauspicious. "Good" and "bad" vie for control, just like life (in and beyond Lunar World). Let's take a closer look.
Day Personality
Constellation Personality (Section Five—Character Six)
[b] Generational Horse RF
Today's "constellation personality" is Void (虛), and it's scary-bad. It is the eleventh of twenty-eight "lunar mansions" (宿) or "constellations." Traditional calendars state that the constellation resembles a tomb, and such an image is rarely auspicious. The funerary gloom portends family strife, and bad fortune awaits those who engage in digging and construction. The children born of marriages on this day will turn out badly.
Jianchu Personality (Section Five—Character Seven)
The jianchu "personality" is DIscard (). It is the second of twelve characters in the jianchu cycle. While it is not a day (in Lunar World) for big events, it is always printed in red ink. Why? Well, think about it. We all need a day of cleansing. Sweep away bad influences. Clean it out, people. It's good.
Lucky Stars
(Section Two)
There are two beneficent asterisms today, and both are "generational": Generational Exemplarity (歲德), or "Virtue," and Generational Equinity (歲馬), or "Horse." Let the beneficence shine upon your generation.

Auspicious Times
(Section Three)
There are three inauspicious (凶) two-hour periods, six in-between () times, and three auspicious () times. Whoa! Now there's a curve-ball.
Things to Avoid
(Section Four)
It's a bad day for Setting-up Production (置產) and Positioning Beds (安牀) for geomantic efficiency
Just Plain Counting
(Section Four—Characters 1-4)
It is the third (初三) day of the sixth lunar month. The cycle of sixty character is #45: wushen (戊申). The days cycle—1, 2, 3, 58, 59, 60, 1, 2, 3...—in perpetuity.
Elemental (and Phased)
(Section Five—Character 5)
Today's slice of the "Five Phases" (sometimes called the "Five Elements") is Earth (土). Ordinarily, the Five Phases weave their way, two-by-two, through the calendar. Yesterday was Water. Today is Earth, and tomorrow is Earth.
Appropriate Things
(Section Six)
It's a solid day for eight different things things today, including: Venerating Ancestors (祭祀), Getting Married (嫁娶), Haircuts (理髮), and Going to the Doctor (醫病). Click the link for the others.
Sunday's Lunar Calendar
Solar Periods
(Section Six—Upper and Middle)
We are in the eleventh of the twenty-four fifteen day solar periods (the 二十四節氣), which began on Saturday, July 7 and runs through Saturday, July 21. It is called Slight Heat (小暑). We are in the thirty-second of the seventy-two five-day solar micro periods (the 七十二候). It is called Crickets Come Into Walls (蟋蟀居壁). It began on Thursday, July 12 and runs through Monday, July 16.
Fear Your Unlucky Stars
(Bottom of Section Six)
The baleful asterisms (the bottom of section six) are Poplar Taboo (楊忌), Water Scar (水痕), and Repeat Mourning (復喪). If you want to get a sense of how they "work," try thinking of them as movie titles, movie posters, and movie trailers. Seriously. It is an important step in "getting it."
Miscellaneous Omens and Activities
(Sections Seven and Eight)

Today's miscellaneous omens are Bifurcation (丫) and Fire (火). The miscellaneous activities are Edifice (房), Furnace (爐), and Bed (牀). Nobody knows what they mean, but these three go nicely from large to small, don't they?

See You Tomorrow
O.k., folks, navigate the "50-50," and I'll see you back here on Sunday night for a preview of Monday in Lunar World.
