From Round to Square (and back)

For The Emperor's Teacher, scroll down (↓) to "Topics." It's the management book that will rock the world (and break the vase, as you will see). Click or paste the following link for a recent profile of the project: http://magazine.beloit.edu/?story_id=240813&issue_id=240610

A new post appears every day at 12:05* (CDT). There's more, though. Take a look at the right-hand side of the page for over four years of material (2,000 posts and growing) from Seinfeld and country music to every single day of the Chinese lunar calendar...translated. Look here ↓ and explore a little. It will take you all the way down the page...from round to square (and back again).
*Occasionally I will leave a long post up for thirty-six hours, and post a shorter entry at noon the next day.

Lunar World Preview 2018 07-02

As the Lunar World Turns
Monday, July 2, 2018
[a] Cat Preview RF
Well, people, I can't hold back the flowering fortunes of this splendid day. It is overflowing with fully-ripe auspicousness. Enjoy the bounty while you can, but let's take a closer look.
Day Personality
Constellation Personality (Section Five—Character Six)
Today's "constellation personality" is Drawn Bow (). It is the twenty-sixth of twenty-eight "lunar mansions" (宿) or "constellations." Traditional calendars state it is like a bow, drawn and ready for (positive) action. You're ready to slingshot into good fortune, so don't delay (in Lunar World, at least).
Jianchu Personality (Section Five—Character Seven)
[b] Drawn Bow RF
The jianchu "personality" is even better, Discard (). It is the second of twelve characters in the jianchu cycle, and it is meant to focus on keeping your focus and discarding things that don't help move you along. You know what to do. Just Eschew It.
Lucky Stars
(Section Two)
There are four beneficent asterisms today on this bulging calendar day: Protected Days (守日), Auspicious Temporal-Slice (吉期), Six Linkages (六合), and Not General (不將). They tower above you to help you (um, in Lunar World).

Auspicious Times
(Section Three)
There are four inauspicious (凶) two-hour periods, three in-between () times, and five auspicious () times. Close enough for counting in this era of auspiciousness inflation.
[c] Meeting Friends RF
Things to Avoid
(Section Four)
It's a bad day for Planting and Cultivating (栽種), Injections (時插), Completing Clothing (成服), and Mourning Visits (行喪)
Just Plain Counting
(Section Four—Characters 1-4)
It is the nineteenth (十九) day of the fourth lunar month. The cycle of sixty character is #32: yiwei (乙未). The days cycle—1, 2, 3, 58, 59, 60, 1, 2, 3...—in perpetuity.
Elemental (and Phased)
(Section Five—Character 5)
Today's slice of the "Five Phases" (sometimes called the "Five Elements") is Metal (金). Ordinarily, the Five Phases weave their way, two-by-two, through the calendar. Yesterday was Metal. Today is Metal, and tomorrow is Fire.
Appropriate Things
(Section Six)
[d] Shadow Broom RF
It's a solid day for sixteen different things today, including: Meeting Friends (會友), Repairing and Constructing (修造), Haircuts (理髮), and Sweeping Rooms (掃舎). Click the link for the other dozen. They're rolling in bountiful goodness, like a Pillsbury Doughboy of appropriateness.
Monday's Lunar Calendar
Solar Periods
(Section Six—Upper and Middle)
We are in the tenth of the twenty-four fifteen day solar periods (the 二十四節氣), which began on Thursday, June 21 and runs through Friday, July 6. It is called Summer Arrives or, of course, Summer Solstice (夏至). We are in the thirtieth of the seventy-two five-day solar micro periods (the 七十二候). It is called Crowdipper Flourishes (半夏生). It began on Monday, July 2 and runs through Friday, July 6.
Fear Your Unlucky Stars
(Bottom of Section Six)
The baleful asterisms (the bottom of section six) are Four Auspicious-Nots (四祥不), Three Mournings (三喪), Narrative Hook (勾陳), and Dragon Tiger (龍虎). I can't say that I have ever seen the last one before, and I suspect that it is a mistake, and should have been Dragon Mouth or Tiger Mouth. We go a lot of animal without an orifice here. That's all I can say.
Miscellaneous Omens and Activities
(Sections Seven and Eight)

Today's miscellaneous omens are White (白) and Copse (林)...and, no, that's not Corpse. That would be (尸). The miscellaneous activities are Toilet (厠), Mortar (磨), and Pestle (碓). Nobody knows what they mean, but I know enough to tell you to stay away from the outhouse with your mortar and pestle. Just sayin'.
[e] Catoilet RF
See You Tomorrow
O.k., people, clean out your system with one big, red, lozenge of auspiciousness. Today is almost too good to be true. Enjoy it until it fades into legend. I'll see you back here for a preview of Tuesday in Lunar World.
