From Round to Square (and back)

For The Emperor's Teacher, scroll down (↓) to "Topics." It's the management book that will rock the world (and break the vase, as you will see). Click or paste the following link for a recent profile of the project: http://magazine.beloit.edu/?story_id=240813&issue_id=240610

A new post appears every day at 12:05* (CDT). There's more, though. Take a look at the right-hand side of the page for over four years of material (2,000 posts and growing) from Seinfeld and country music to every single day of the Chinese lunar calendar...translated. Look here ↓ and explore a little. It will take you all the way down the page...from round to square (and back again).
*Occasionally I will leave a long post up for thirty-six hours, and post a shorter entry at noon the next day.

Lunar World Preview 2018 07-08

As the Lunar World Turns
Sunday, July 8, 2018
[a] Destroy? Destroy? RF
Well, folks, we're looking at a skinny little day-column that is fiercely, starkly "50-50." Really bad meets really good. Let's take a closer look.
Day Personality
Constellation Personality (Section Five—Character Six)
Today's "constellation personality" is Edifice (). It is the fourth of twenty-eight "lunar mansions" (宿) or "constellations." Traditional calendars state that it is positive, and a good day for a wide range of events, including weddings, conferences, and construction projects.
Jianchu Personality (Section Five—Character Seven)
[b] Destroy RF
The jianchu "personality" is Destroy (破). It is the seventh of twelve characters in the jianchu cycle, and it is the worst-of-the-worst in this cycle. Anything (in Lunar World) that can grow wrong...will. Hunker down (for half of your day).
Lucky Stars
(Section Two)
There are two beneficent asterisms today: Lunar Kindness (月恩) and Heavenly Fortune (天福). Even on a narrow little day-column, they shine brightly of fortune (in Lunar World).

Auspicious Times
(Section Three)
There are four inauspicious (凶) two-hour periods, two in-between () times, and six auspicious () times. Back to abnormal; the inflationary spiral continues.
Things to Avoid
[c] Mixing Sauces RF
(Section Four)
It's a bad day for Mixing Sauces (合醬) and Making Liquor (造酒). So avoid 'em. It doesn't mean you can't eat and drink 'em (as far as I can tell).
Just Plain Counting
(Section Four—Characters 1-4)
It is the twenty-fifth (廿五) day of the fourth lunar month. The cycle of sixty character is #38: xinchou (辛丑). The days cycle—1, 2, 3, 58, 59, 60, 1, 2, 3...—in perpetuity.
Elemental (and Phased)
(Section Five—Character 5)
Today's slice of the "Five Phases" (sometimes called the "Five Elements") is Earth (土). Ordinarily, the Five Phases weave their way, two-by-two, through the calendar. Yesterday was Earth. Today is Earth, and tomorrow is Metal.
Appropriate Things
(Section Six)
It's a solid day for four things today: Seeking Medical Attention (), Medical Treatments (), Destroying Rooms (), and Smashing Embankments (). Wreck stuff (your own), and then seek medical treatment. Or vice-versa.
Sunday's Lunar Calendar
(Section Six—Upper and Middle)
We are in the eleventh of the twenty-four fifteen day solar periods (the 二十四節氣), which began on Saturday, July 7 and runs through Saturday, July 21. It is called Slight Heat (小暑). We are in the thirty-first of the seventy-two five-day solar micro periods (the 七十二候). It is called Warm Winds Arrive (溫風至). It began on Monday, July 2 and runs through Friday, July 6.
Fear Your Unlucky Stars
(Bottom of Section Six)
The baleful asterisms (the bottom of section six) are Lunar Destruction (月破), Short Star (短星), Great Squander (大耗), and Vermilion Bird (朱雀). Movie titles; movie trailers (in a way they are).
Miscellaneous Omens and Activities
(Sections Seven and Eight)

Today's miscellaneous omens are Bifurcation (丫) and Landmass (州). The miscellaneous activities are Kitchen (廚), Toilet (厠), and Stove (灶). Nobody knows what they mean, but keep the middle one away from the other two.
[e] Toilet RF
See You Tomorrow
Navigate the good and the bad, people, and I'll see you back here on Sunday night for a preview of Monday in Lunar World.
