From Round to Square (and back)

For The Emperor's Teacher, scroll down (↓) to "Topics." It's the management book that will rock the world (and break the vase, as you will see). Click or paste the following link for a recent profile of the project: http://magazine.beloit.edu/?story_id=240813&issue_id=240610

A new post appears every day at 12:05* (CDT). There's more, though. Take a look at the right-hand side of the page for over four years of material (2,000 posts and growing) from Seinfeld and country music to every single day of the Chinese lunar calendar...translated. Look here ↓ and explore a little. It will take you all the way down the page...from round to square (and back again).
*Occasionally I will leave a long post up for thirty-six hours, and post a shorter entry at noon the next day.

Lunar World Preview 2018 05-16

As the Lunar World Turns
Wednesday, May 16, 2018
[a] Cat Preview RF
Well, we're humming along nicely in 50-50 Land. As with all things, Wednesday holds (in Lunar World, at least) a little bit of positive and a little bit of negative. Let's take a closer look.

Day Personality
(Section Five—Characters Six and Seven)
Today's "constellation personality" is red-ink scrumptious Winnowing Basket (). Calendrical interpretations stress that it brings forth a year of good fortune, with flowing herds of cows and horses. Even the silkworms will be active, and granaries will bulge with grain. Wow, right?
[b] Back in the Generational Saddle RF

The jianchu "personality" is black-ink neutral Level (平). What could be so bad about "level?" Nothing, really. Maybe (like driving through eastern North Dakota, at least for the uninitiated) just a little bit "boring." It's probably a better day for reflection and contemplation (in Lunar World) than for busting out and taking control of things (plan; be patient; choose your time).
Lucky Stars
(Section Two)
There are two beneficent asterisms today: Generational Virtue (歲德) and Generational Horse (歲馬). Gallop on (virtuously). They're good.

Auspicious Times
(Section Three)
[c] Roadways RF
There are three inauspicious (凶) two-hour periods, five in-between () times, and four auspicious () times. Not bad.

Things to Avoid
(Section Four)
It's a bad day for Setting-up Production (置產) and Positioning Beds for geomantic efficiency (安牀). Think about these. Keep those rollers right where they are (and what, exactly, does "production" mean, anyway?)...

Just Plain Counting
(Section Four—Characters 1-4)
It is the second () day of the fourth lunar month. The cycle of sixty character is #45: wushen (戊申). The days cycle—1, 2, 3, 58, 59, 60, 1, 2, 3...—in perpetuity.
Elemental (and Phased)
(Section Five—Character 5)
Today's slice of the "Five Phases" (sometimes called the "Five Elements") is Earth (土). Ordinarily, the Five Phases weave their way, two-by-two, through the calendar. Yesterday was Water. Today is Earth, and tomorrow is Earth.

Appropriate Things
(Section Six)
[d] Cucurbit Flourishes RF
It's a solid day for only three things: Venerating Ancestors (祭祀), Leveling Roadways (平道), and Adorning Embankments (飾垣).
Wednesday's Lunar Calendar
Solar Periods
(Section Six—Upper and Middle)
We are in the sixth of the twenty-four fifteen day solar periods (the 二十四節氣), which began on Saturday, May 5 and runs through Sunday, May 20. It is called Beginning of Summer (立夏). We are in the twenty-first of the seventy-two five-day solar micro periods (the 七十二候). It is called Cucurbit Flourishes (王瓜生). It began on Wednesday, May 16, and runs through Sunday, May 20.

Fear Your Unlucky Stars
(Bottom of Section Six)
The baleful asterisms (the bottom of section six) are Five Voids (五虛) and Blood Taboo (血忌).
Miscellaneous Omens and Activities
(Sections Seven and Eight)

Today's miscellaneous omens are White (白) and Heaven (天). The miscellaneous activities are Edifice (房), Furnace (爐), and Bed (牀). Nobody knows what they mean.

See You Tomorrow
So, this is as good as "50-50" gets, people. Enjoy your winnowing and leveling, and I will see you back here Wednesday night—as the cucurbit continues to flourish—for a preview of Thursday in Lunar World.
