From Round to Square (and back)

For The Emperor's Teacher, scroll down (↓) to "Topics." It's the management book that will rock the world (and break the vase, as you will see). Click or paste the following link for a recent profile of the project: http://magazine.beloit.edu/?story_id=240813&issue_id=240610

A new post appears every day at 12:05* (CDT). There's more, though. Take a look at the right-hand side of the page for over four years of material (2,000 posts and growing) from Seinfeld and country music to every single day of the Chinese lunar calendar...translated. Look here ↓ and explore a little. It will take you all the way down the page...from round to square (and back again).
*Occasionally I will leave a long post up for thirty-six hours, and post a shorter entry at noon the next day.

[a] Cat Preview RF
Well, we're back, people. It has been a busy stretch, but the calendar has been translated every day. I am hoping that these previews will be at least an almost-everyday occurrence. It is a 50-50 day, but it leans toward the auspicious. Let's take a closer look.

Day Personality
(Section Five—Characters Six and Seven)
Today's "constellation personality" is Edifice (). Calendrical interpretations stress that it is a very lucky day for building projects, presaging luxury, happiness, and longevity.
[b] Planted RF

The jianchu "personality" is Establish (建). Although it is printed in black ink, it is more than solid. Calendrical interpretations show it to be a wonderful day for starting big projects.
Lucky Stars
(Section Two)
There are two beneficent asterisms today: Generational Emolument (歲祿) and Kingly Days (王日). They are red-ink positive.

Auspicious Times
(Section Three)
There are three inauspicious (凶) two-hour periods, four in-between () times, and fully five auspicious () times. Moreover, the good times start really to roll from 5:00-11:00 p.m. Good stuff.

Things to Avoid
(Section Four)
It's a bad day for Planting and Cultivating (栽種) and Distant Journeys (遠行). Think about these.  And think about what "distant" really means in your life.
[c] Fire RF

Just Plain Counting
(Section Four—Characters 1-4)
It is the twenty-eighth (廿八) day of the third lunar month. The cycle of sixty character is #42: yisi (乙巳). The days cycle—1, 2, 3, 58, 59, 60, 1, 2, 3...—in perpetuity.
Elemental (and Phased)
(Section Five—Character 5)
Today's slice of the "Five Phases" (sometimes called the "Five Elements") is Fire (火). Ordinarily, the Five Phases weave their way, two-by-two, through the calendar. Yesterday was Fire. Today is Fire, and tomorrow is Water.

Appropriate Things
(Section Six)
[d] Soil Corn Palace RF
It's a solid day for eight different things, including Meeting Friends (會友) and Moving Households (移徙). Click the link for the rest (and maybe those friends you meet can help you with the move).
Sunday's Lunar Calendar

Solar Periods
(Section Six—Upper and Middle)
We are in the sixth of the twenty-four fifteen day solar periods (the 二十四節氣), which began on Saturday, May 5 and runs through Sunday, May 20. It is called Beginning of Summer (立夏). We are in the twentieth of the seventy-two five-day solar micro periods (the 七十二候). It is called Earthworms Come Forth (蚯蚓出). It began on Thursday, May 10, and runs through Tuesday, May 15.

Fear Your Unlucky Stars
(Bottom of Section Six)
The baleful asterisms (the bottom of section six) are Soil Palace (土府), Lower Amputee (下兀), and Doubled Days (重日).
Miscellaneous Omens and Activities
(Sections Seven and Eight)

Today's miscellaneous omens are White (白) and Landmass (州). The miscellaneous activities are Pestle (碓), Bed (牀), and Mortar (磨). Nobody knows what they mean.
[e] Bed RF
See You Tomorrow
O.k., enjoy your Sunday (and the generally auspicious tidings, at least for Lunar World). I'll see you back here Sunday night for a preview of Monday in Lunar World).
